Czech success on the international stage: Three films nominated by A-FilmTeens shortlisted for YCN Awards!
Great news for young Czech filmmakers! A-FilmTeens is celebrating a huge success as three films made by young Czech filmmakers have been shortlisted for the prestigious Youth Cinema Network (YCN) Awards. These awards are important not only for the awardees but also for the entire film programme, as they provide young filmmakers with the opportunity to present their work in an international context and to network with festivals and organisations around the world.
The Youth Cinema Network is a global network connecting film festivals, organisations and educators dedicated to film and media education. The network promotes the exchange of experiences and best practices among its members and presents the annual YCN Awards to recognise the creativity and exceptional talent of young filmmakers. In addition, YCN also supports the distribution of films by young filmmakers and helps them to break into international festivals and other international projects.
This year, the Czech Republic nominated four films, three of which received the attention of the international jury. The film Ronald's Pilgrimage to the Centre of the Earth from the children's home in Nová Ves near Chotěbor competed in the workshops category, the documentary It Was Really Great by 12-year-old Martina Inostroza impressed in the under-14 category, and Unfamiliar Familiar by Jiří Toupal, a student at MICHAEL High School, competed in the under-19 category. These nominations not only raise awareness of Czech filmmaking among foreign audiences, but also give young filmmakers a chance to gain valuable contacts and experience that could open doors to their future careers.
All these talented filmmakers will have the opportunity to screen their films at our festival, which takes place from 12 to 23 February 2025, where we will be eagerly awaiting their success in the YCN competition. Let's support them and keep our fingers crossed for them to make their mark on the international film scene!
