Waka Wikaire James
This film was created by a 19-year-old student Waka Wikaire James.
Raised by parents that worked in the Film & TV industry, Waka has gone on to write and direct his own short films. His debut short film won the 2020 Maoriland Film Festival Rangatahi Filmmaker of the Year Award at Ōtaki for For My Brother.
Author's note:
This film is a personal story that encapsulates the thoughts that I had when my mother died when I was nine. To be able to convey those thoughts not only shares a personal tale but also speaks of the important issue of children overcoming grief and the importance of a parent's memory, even when they are gone.
